Main Task: Screenplay

We have written the screenplay. However it does not feature the monologue that goes over the shots, as we plan to write this after we have edited the shots, we feel it would be more effective this way.

Our Screenplay: INTENT.docx

Main Task: Planning – Title

Snapchat-1528348685331564491

We couldn’t decide upon a name so we held a vote to the audience. We discussed potential names and what would work best for our film opening concept. We voted on the following names:

  • Chasing my tail
  • Backtrack
  • Dead end(s)
  • Diamonds
  • Identity?
  • Figure of 8
  • Infinity
  • Figure of infinity
  • Fragile mind
  • Ricochet
  • Intent
  • Rejected
  • Sold to myself
  • Contradiction
  • Oblivious
  • Right Demise

The most voted  names were Prism, Oblivious, Intent, perspective and identity. The challenge was finding a name that was catchy and effective whilst not giving our plot away.

We chose the Title ‘Intent’.

Main Task: Filming Planning

1st victims bathroom, victim gets drowned in sink.

Out of our group, we need to determine who has the biggest sink, to help with ease of filming. The biggest sink would be the best bathroom setting of choice for filming the Victim 1’s shots. We will each measure each sink, taking note of circumference, diameter and depth. We also need to choose a bathroom with plenty of space.

Main Task: Audience Research

Interview with Luke Davies

Age: 34 years old

Favourite Films: Godfather, Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club, Se7en, Usual Suspects, Silence Of The Lambs, City Of God, Rear Window.

Se7en, Godfather 2 and Silence Of the Lambs, all fit the filmic style that we’re aiming for. Most of these films feature cognitive pleasures, this is something we aim to achieve in our opening .He is also part of the oldest part of our target audience, therefore is an appropriate respondent to find out more about why he likes these films and what we should aim to do in our film.

Psychographic: An experienced film watcher, with a like towards neo noirs and thrillers.

These are the Questions we asked:

How do you feel about our treatment?

why do you like the thriller genre?

Anythings we should avoid?

Note: An answer was recorded and lost, we are sorry for this mistake and inconvenience.

Main Task: Audience

Target Audience

We have a very broad target audience, as we feel many people would like our feel opening.

Primary Demographic
– 18 to 35 year old
– Males
– Likes Thrillers

Second Demographic
– 13 to 70 year old
– Both genders
– Likes thrillers, action or drama

Therefore our mythical ideal consumer would be a male thriller, detective fan, of 25 years old, who enjoys the Neo noir style we are trying to utilise.

Audience Pleasures

Our opening would mainly focus on sensory and cognitive pleasures. We feel these pleasures would most satisfy our target audience.

Our primary target audience has an age range of 18 to 35, therefore as these people are young, sensory pleasures would appeal more to them. They would like seeing the action and the effects used, also witnessing the crimes as they happen. Sensory pleasures for our thriller, murder mystery may feature showing how intelligent the killer is and how he sets/plants evidence in the crime scenes.

Our other audience pleasure is cognitive. People who like the thriller genre, would enjoy unwrapping the mystery and working out the plot throughout the movie but also trying to work out the meaning and the plot; which would just be being established, in the opening. We would want the video to not be confusing, but engaging and evoking of cognitive pleasure.

Main Task: Production Log 2

In the next 2 weeks, we have a list of objectives to achieve:

– Idea
– Target Audience (Primary, Second and perfect mythological consumer)
– Audience Research (Interview and discuss with a focus group, write analysis)
– Audience pleasure (how we will pleasure the audience)
– Storyboard
– Screenplay

We will achieve these aims by doing independent research, looking into possible audiences and what they enjoy. Off the back of that we will then draft up a narrative, resulting in a storyboard and screenplay.

Main Task: Our developed idea

For our final idea, we have decided to merge Marcus’s and Arnold’s ideas. However we will add some elements of mine; like the idea of a poisoned sweet.

We will have a psychopathic schizophrenic murderer, who is actually the detective investigating the string of murders. This character; as they’re schizophrenic, does not know they are the murderer.

Our opening sequence would not reveal this crucial plot point but it would foreshadow it, by drawing parallels between the detective and the murderer; for example both would possess the same objects. We would have the psychopath narrating for part of the opening sequence. This is a common Neo noir convention: to have an untrustworthy narrator. The murderer would also use unique ways of killing, we our debating the idea of featuring a dead body in our opening sequence with the murderer planting false evidence to make the deaths look like suicides.

Main Task: Pitching our ideas (5/11/12)

Today the three of us are pitching our ideas to each other. We are trying to persuade each-other why our idea is the best. Once we have presented them, we will choose the best one or combine our ideas.

Idea 1: James: Drama, thriller, Neo noir, featuring love triangle.

Idea 2: Marcus: Neo noir, crime investigation thriller.

Idea 3: Arnold: Thriller, Neo noir, featuring serial killer murder mystery.
